Simulate a failure on one or more specified devices
busTRACE 8.0 allows you to simulate a device failure. You can simulate either a check condition failure or an SRB status failure. This tool can be invaluable in helping you test software to make sure it handles device failures properly.

New to busTRACE 8.0 is the inclusion of busFAULT 8.0. This application allows you to simulate device or bus failures. This application serves two main functions:

  • For MultiPath / MPIO users, it allows you to force a device failure to ensure that the MultiPath failover path is handled properly.
  • If you are a software developer, or a test engineer, you can force spurious faults to make sure that your software responds to any failure properly.

busTRACE 8.0 is fully busFAULT aware. If you are capturing I/O activity, and busFAULT forces an I/O to fail, the busFAULT icon will appear in the I/O Capture List. This lets you quickly determine that this was a busFAULT forced failure, and not an error returned from the device.

Our software allows you to simulate check condition failures and SRB status failures. You specify the number of sequential I/Os to fail or you can configure busFAULT to randomly fail I/O activity.

Key Features
Only available in the Professional Edition of busTRACE 8.0
Force any CDB to fail with either a check condition or an SRB status fail
Specify exactly which CDBs you want to fail and which you want to leave unaltered
The busTRACE bus capture program is busFAULT aware and allows you to differentiate between failures caused by busFAULT and true failures returned from a device.
