busTRACE This WEB page comes from the busTRACE 9.0 User's Manual. (Table of Contents)

Once busCHECK has completed its selected tests, a report will be displayed showing you the test results. In this example, we see that our test device failed with CDB Errors, CDB Warnings and our Transfer Length check:

The defect checks are actually performed by our busTRACE bus capture / analysis program. The results displayed here are identical to the defect checks you can individually enable or disable within busTRACE.

Within the Test Results, each item will show you an icon with the results of that test:

(No Error)

The green checkmark indicates that the test ran without any error detected.

(Warning)

The yellow checkmark indicates that the specific defect check is disabled. If you have configured busCHECK to use the busTRACE defect analysis settings, you can disable individual defect checks.

(Error Detected)

The red checkmark indicates that the specific defect check has detected defects. The number of I/Os with errors detected is also shown. You will be able to load the results within busTRACE for detailed analysis.

The very first item in the test results has a special meaning. One of two values will be displayed. If you let all of your selected tests run to completion, this item will appear with a green checkmark and will state that All selected busCHECK tests executed. If you abort the tests before they come to completion, this item will appear with a red flag and will report that busCHECK tests aborted by user.

The next eight defect checks match the eight defect checks that are available within busTRACE. If any of these defect checks fail, the defect check will show with a red icon and tell you how many I/Os failed the given defect check.

Save test results to a busTRACE capture file

busCHECK itself does not show you detailed test results. It just provides you a summary. Instead, busCHECK provides you the option to save the results to a busTRACE capture file. You can then load the file into busTRACE and perform any detailed analysis.

Place a checkmark on this option to have busCHECK save the test results to a busTRACE capture file.

Save log file with busTRACE capture file

By placing a checkmark on this option, busCHECK will save a log file along with the busTRACE capture file. It will use the same filename you specify for the busTRACE capture file but it will use a .log file extension instead.

A log file is a text file with the results of the CDBs processed by the device. Think of it as a very simplified busTRACE capture file but in text format. Why is this useful? We save the results to a text file in a format that makes it ideal for comparing one log file with another. You can use any text difference tool to compare two text files to see the changes from one test run to another. This is described in full detail in our Comparing busCHECK Log Files section.

Automatically launch busTRACE to analyze saved capture file

If you have selected busCHECK to save the results to a busTRACE capture file, you can place a checkmark on this option to have busCHECK automatically launch busTRACE and have it read in the busCHECK test results for detailed analysis.
