busTRACE This WEB page comes from the busTRACE 8.0 User's Manual. (Table of Contents)

Several busTRACE 8.0 applications allow a user to send a CDB to a storage device. For example, busPROBE allows you to issue any CDB to a storage device while busSCRIPT allows you to submit a sequence of CDBs to a storage device. All of our applications share a common CDB Executation Database. This database contains a list of pre-built CDBs you can use to send a command to a storage device. While our CDB database is used to decode CDBs, our CDB Execution Database is used to send pre-built CDBs to a device.

All of our applications share the same CDB Execution Database. In addition to the built-in execution CDBs that we have provided, our applications also provide you the means to add, edit, or remove entries from the database.

Add, Edit, or Remove CDBs

You can click on a CDB within the tree list of built-in execution CDBs and then choose the appropriate toolbar option to add, edit, or remove a CDB from the database. You can also right click on an item to get an equivalent option.

The toolbar itself varies slighly depending on which application is showing you the CDB Execution Database. These buttons are common to all our applications:

When you select this option, a drop-down menu will appear giving you additional options

Import CDBs: Select this option to import execution CDBs created by busTRACE 5.0 or busTRACE 8.0.

Export CDBs: Select this option if you want to export the user defined execution CDBs to an XML file that you can send to someone else.

Set "CDB Execution Database" Path: When you add a user defined execution CDB to our database, your execution CDBs are saved to an XML file. Using this option you can position where you want that XML file stored. For example, by placing it on a network share, you and other busTRACE 8.0 users can share the same CDB Execution Database file. See the CDB Execution Database File Location topic below.

Select this option to create your own user defined CDB.

Select this option to create a new user defined CDB starting from the currently selected CDB (e.g. Clone the CDB).

Select this option to view or edit an execution CDB.

Select this option to remove the CDB from the database. You are only allowed to remove entries from the user defined database. You are not allowed to edit or remove entries from the built-in CDBs defined by busTRACE Technologies.

List of pre-build CDBs

Below the toolbar, a tree list of available built-in CDBs will be included. This includes those CDBs that are included with busTRACE (using the notepad icon) as well as custom CDBs created by the user (using the notepad with pencil icon).

Filtering CDBs

Just below the tree list of available CDBs, there is an edit box. You can type in a filter string to have the tree list only display those CDBs that contain the string that you have entered. For example, type in the word "Sector" and you will view only those CDBs that contain that word. Click on the X icon to the left to remove the filter and re-display all available execution CDBs.

CDB Execution Database File Location

All user defined execution CDBs are stored in a separate XML file. By clicking on the toolbar option, and selecting the Set "CDB Execution Database" Path menu option, you can specify where that file is located.

This feature is particularly useful if you want to share the same user defined CDBs between multiple busTRACE 8.0 users. Simply place the file on a shared network drive that all users have access too. When one user adds or edits the database, that change is automatically reflected in all other busTRACE 8.0 users that are sharing the same database.
