After installing busTRACE 8.0, you will be left with a busTRACE 8.0 Start Menu icon on your desktop. Double-click this icon to launch busTRACE 8.0. You can also get to this feature from the Windows' Start menu.

All of the available applications, included with busTRACE 8.0, are available to you from the start menu. The available tasks are grouped into different categories to help you find what you're looking for.

Capture I/O Activity

This category covers those features of busTRACE 8.0 that allow you to capture I/O activity on one or more Windows PCs.

Generate I/O Activity

This category covers those features of busTRACE 8.0 that allow you to generate I/O activity. For example, you may want to send a Command Descriptor Block (CDB) to a storage device.

Simulate Device Faults

This category covers those features of busTRACE 8.0 that allow you to force I/O failures on the bus to occur.

Additional Tools

This category shows you additional tools that you are likely to find useful.

When you click on the Additional Utilities button, a menu item of additional utilities will appear.

Internet Options

You can click on the Check for Product Updates link any time you want to to run the busTRACE auto-updater. The auto-updater will check the Internet for any product updates that may be available.

Product Information

This section shows you the date when the busTRACE 8.0 CDB database, currently installed on your system, was created. If the date is determined to be out-of-date, or if new updates were detected, the green flag will turn to a yellow or red fag. You can also click on the date to run the busTRACE auto-updater.

Configuration Options

You can configure the busTRACE Start Menu by selecting Tools->Options from the main menu.

busTRACE 8.0 Auto-Updater

You can click on the Check for Updates... link any time you want to to run the busTRACE auto-updater. The auto-updater will check the Internet for any product updates that may be available.

By selecting the Help menu, a drop down list of help topics are shown:

Start Menu Quick Launch

Most of our busTRACE 8.0 applications have a busTRACE 8.0 Start Menu button on its main toolbar. By clicking on the button, you can quickly get back to the Start Menu. Alternatively, you can click on the drop down arrow to the right of the button to view the same applications available from the Start Menu application.

This feature allows you to quickly move from one application to another while keeping each application resident.

Dragging and Dropping onto the Desktop icon

If you drag and drop a busTRACE capture file (either .BTD or .ZIP) onto the busTRACE 8.0 Start Menu desktop icon, our busTRACE bus analyzer application will automatically load.
