After installing busTRACE 7.0, you will be left with a busTRACE 7.0 Start Menu icon on your desktop. Double-click this icon to launch busTRACE 7.0. You can also get to this feature from the Windows' Start menu.

All of the available applications, included with busTRACE 7.0, are available to you from the start menu. The available tasks are grouped into different categories to help you find what you're looking for.

Capture I/O Activity

This category covers those features of busTRACE 7.0 that allow you to capture I/O activity on one or more Windows PCs.

• Capture I/O activity on this computer or a remote computer
• Allow remote busTRACE users to capture I/O activity on this computer

Generate I/O Activity

This category covers those features of busTRACE 7.0 that allow you to generate I/O activity. For example, you may want to send a Command Descriptor Block (CDB) to a storage device.

• Send a single CDB to a storage device
• Send a sequence of CDBs to a storage device
• Perform a read/write/compare stress test
• View ATA/ATAPI Identify information

Simulate Device Faults

This category covers those features of busTRACE 7.0 that allow you to force I/O failures on the bus to occur.

This category shows you additional tools that you are likely to find useful.

When you click on the Additional Utilities button, a menu item of additional utilities will appear.

Configuration Options

If you click on the Options button, you can configure the busTRACE Start Menu.

busTRACE 7.0 Auto-Updater

You can click on the Check for Updates... link any time you want to to run the busTRACE auto-updater. The auto-updater will check the Internet for any product updates that may be available.

Start Menu Quick Launch

Most of our busTRACE 7.0 applications have a busTRACE 7.0 Start Menu button on its main toolbar. By clicking on the button, you can quickly get back to the Start Menu. Alternatively, you can click on the drop down arrow to the right of the button to view the same applications available from the Start Menu application.

This feature allows you to quickly move from one application to another while keeping each application resident.

Dragging and Dropping onto the Desktop icon

If you drag and drop a busTRACE capture file (either .BTD or .ZIP) onto the busTRACE 7.0 Start Menu desktop icon, our busTRACE bus analyzer application will automatically load.
