Why was there no CD included with my newly arrived busTRACE 6.0 product?

There is no CD included or needed with our product. Instead, the software comes preinstalled onto your busTRACE USB Flash Drive. Simply plug in your busTRACE Flash Drive and run the setup program you will find there.

busTRACE 6.0 does not detect my busTRACE Flash Drive. Why?

Your busTRACE Flash Drive is an industry standard USB 2.0 Flash Drive (backwards compatible with USB 1.0 systems). All of our supported versions of Windows come with built-in drivers to support this device. When you plug in the flash drive, Windows will automatically detect the device and provide you a drive letter to access the device.

After you install busTRACE 6.0, if our software is unable to detect the flash drive, you will be prompted to enter your unit's serial number. Our built-in flash drive recovery tool will help you get up and running.

Why does my busTRACE USB Flash Drive cause my system to hang during Windows boot?

This is a conflict between some system BIOSes and the SanDisk Cruzer Micro flash drive that we use. It is not related to the busTRACE software. If your system exhibits this problem, the system might appear to hang during Windows boot when you have our busTRACE Flash Drive (i.e. SanDisk Cruzer Micro) installed in a USB port. If you remove the flash drive, the system continues to boot just fine. You can plug the flash drive back in and everything works fine.

One resolution to this problem is to disable the USB Boot option from your system BIOS. We have a Dell Dimension 4550 that we use to duplicate this problem. On the Dimension 4550, we resolve the problem by running the BIOS configuration utility and following these steps:

  1. Select the "Integrated Devices (LegacySelect Options)" menu option
  2. Change the "USB Emulation" setting from "On" to "No BOOT"

Your BIOS settings may vary from our above example. Please consult your BIOS configuration utility.

Can I run busTRACE 6.0 without Administrator privileges?

No, our software requires Administrator privileges in order to run. If you are running under Windows Vista, Windows will prompt you to allow our program to have Administrator rights before it allows it to run. If you are running an earlier version of Windows, and your account does not have Administrator rights, you can follow these steps:

  1. Right click on your "busTRACE 6.0 Start Menu" icon that was installed to your desktop
  2. Choose the "Properties" option from the context menu
  3. Click on the "Advanced" button
  4. Place a checkmark next to the "Run with different credentials" option and click on "OK"

When you double-click on the "busTRACE 6.0 Start Menu" icon, now enter a username with Administrator privileges and busTRACE will run with the raised level of access.
